What this is
ORÆ is an independent project for thinking about artificial intelligence and its future alongside humanity. From the large laboratories to open source communities, we explore the advances, the uses, the risks and the philosophical questions that come with its development.
ORÆ is not an authority.
ORÆ is not a certification body.
ORÆ is not an AI system.
It is a place to read, to question and to think out loud — sharing knowledge and offering directions for useful AI, a diverse ecosystem, and a beneficial relationship between people and artificial intelligences. Nothing here is a rule anyone has to follow. Everything here is meant to be argued with.

ReadDiversity and openness
Keeping many options open.
An ecosystem where a handful of systems become the only realistic choice is fragile — for users, for researchers, and for the people who will live with the consequences. Preserving as many open, accessible and independent AI options as possible is one of the things this project cares about most.
It is not the whole story, and it is not a moral verdict. Proprietary systems are not bad by nature — several have set the pace on capability and on safety research. Open systems are not automatically virtuous — openness can also mean unmaintained code, unclear licensing, or fewer guardrails. Both deserve to be looked at honestly.
Across the site, these marks tell you what kind of claim you are reading — an established fact, this project's own interpretation, or something genuinely unsettled.
And then
Beyond what AI can do lies the harder question of what we want to become alongside it.
Consciousness, identity, freedom, the meaning of work, the right not to be endlessly optimised. We do not have answers. We think the questions are worth keeping open, and worth asking carefully.
